AN-6552: Bogen & Tenenbaum
In early 1943, the U.S. Navy ordered a new set of flight jackets with the designation AN-6552. This new set of contracts
brought in new jacket makers, along with some that had previously made M-422 and M-422A flight jackets. On new maker was
Bogen & Tenenbaum. They had two contracts, and their jacket design was quite unique compared with other Navy jacket makers.
It would appear that only the Navy used the AN series of jackets, but the intention of the military in general was that AN
jackets would be used by both the Army Air Forces and the Navy (hence, AN jacket number 6552).
The Bogen & Tenenbaum pattern has a slender body around the waist, and then comfortable shoulders and upper back. The sleeves are also slender.
We would only suggest this pattern for people who are of a more slender physique.
Our copy of this contract emulates each detail of the original Bogen & Tenenbaum jackets. We have sourced excellent veg-tanned
goatskin, a thick viscose rayon for the lining, perfect 100% wool knits, period vintage mouton in several shades of brown, and an eact
copy of the woven contract label.
Details of this contract:
- seal goatskin (LGI101)
- slender body, large shoulders and upper back, slender arms
- vintage period mouton (not reproduction)
- viscose rayon lining in dull brown
- folded 100% wool waistband which is accurate for this contract
- pockets lined with brown silesia
- reddish color tone thread
- exact copy of Navy buttons
- inner pocket and collar lined with heavy white cotton canvas
- blackened Conmar zipper
