Type A-2: Acme Leather 42-18775-P
Aero Leather Clothing Co. of Beacon, NY made a good number of contracts for the Army Air Corps and Forces.
The very last A-2 contract they made was number 42-18775-P. Most of the jackets from this contract show
features of earlier Aeros, like square pockets, a mustard lining, brown or green thread, but unlike the
two earlier wartime contracts (W535-AC-21996 and 42-15142), jackets of this contract are usually made with
pigment finish horsehide and brown knits. Some jackets of this contract were made with darker horsehide
and red knits, which are very common features of the two earlier wartime contracts, and hallmarks of
historic Aero A-2s.
We chose the company name Acme Leather Clothing Co., in essence to create a name that is close, and still has the
spirit of the 1940s. There were many companies then using Acme, including a leather jacket company!
Some interesting details of this contract, which are different from most of the jackets of earlier contracts,
are that some jackets were made with rounded corners in the collar points, and rounded pocket body corners.
These two details are not common on earlier Aero contracts.
We offer brown knits, along with the more famous Aero red knits. Both brown and green thread are also
available on any 18775-P model, as originals had both.
Details of this contract:
- russet or seal horsehide/cowhide
- easy fitting torso and shoulders
- mustard lining and brown or OD green thread color
- large ring snaps
- mid-brown knits, or Aero red knits
- bell Talon zippers
This pattern is a classic and common A-2 seen in all theaters of WWII. It just looks great.
