Type A-2: J.A. Dubow MFG. Co.
This jacket is based on J.A. Dubow's W535-ac-27798 contract, which appears to have been quite a large contract. The
Dubow pattern is one of the most striking due to the unique collar shape, which is not like other jacket makers like
Rough Wear or Bronco. The pocket position is also interesting, as Dubow would often position them with even spacing
from the cut edge of the wind flap, not the zipper.
Another detail unique to Dubow is that they made the sleeves quite wide at the top, and then the back panel more narrow
than most A-2 makers. The wider sleeve tops more than make up for the more narrow back panel, so the jacket is
generally more comfortable to wear than most other A-2 contracts.
Our 27798 can be made in horsehide or goatskin, with seal or russet shades as accurate. The knits are
available in the dull purple-brown shade seen on many originals or a standard mid-brown shade.
Details of this contract:
- russet or seal horsehide or goatskin
- comfortable torso and wide, comfortable sleeve tops
- strong, square shoulder design
- pointed collar tips, and low collar front
- wide epaulets with large x-stitching
- dull orange lining and usually a lighter thread color
- ball stud snaps
- dull purple-brown or mid-brown knits
- bell Talon zippers, Kwiks or Crowns
This jacket is both easy to wear and has an athletic design.
