Type A-2: Poughkeepsie Leather Coat Co.
In 1942, Poughkeepsie Leather Coat Company had one contract for a Type A-2 flight jacket. Their A-2 pattern can often be
confused with Aero, but the Poughkeepsie design is actually quite different. Little is known by us about the company,
and we've never seen a jacket outside of their military contracts.
The pattern is very smart, and quite comfortable. The shoulders and arm holes are roomy. The collar has a smaller profile,
but the hole is large, so the collar won't hold tight to one's neck.
Many original Poughkeepsies were made with a very dull russet pigment brown on thin horsehide. Most were sewn together
with a very light olive drab colored cotton thread, which we have copied. The pockets are almost as square as Aero A-2
pockets, but the corners are usually rounded, and the flaps a little shorter. Our label maker has perfectly emulated the
typeface and design of the original labels. We have only seen brass and nickel Talons on originals.
The Poughkeepsie is a great common-sense A-2 jacket, with a comfortable design.
Details of this contract:
- russet or seal pigment finish horsehide
- comfortable torso with wide and square shoulders
- simple collar design
- dull tan lining and light olive cotton thread
- large ring snaps
- dull mid-brown knits
- originals were made with Talon zippers
