Type A-2: Good Wear 21996
Aero Leather Clothing Co. of Beacon, NY made a good number of contracts for the Army Air Corps and Forces.
One large contract was W535-ac-21996, and this contract is known for having a strong red knit set and darker
leather among most jackets. The pockets are also usually rectangular, but slightly rounded pockets are also
available. The pattern is easy to wear, and has a roomy body and shoulders. The 21996 pattern has an instantly
classy look when worn.
A common trait of most (though not all) jackets of this contract is that the seal brown leather would
show surface wear to a lighter very red hue of brown. We are able to replicate this detail by applying
reddish aniline dye over our spray finish seal brown horsehide.
We have the pure red knits seen on originals, as well as a mid-brown seen on a small percentage of them.
Details of this contract:
- seal and russet brown horsehide
- easy fitting torso and shoulders
- mustard lining and brown or OD green thread color
- large ring snaps
- commonly red knits, though a few mid-brown knits were made
- bell Talon and Crown zippers
The seal brown horsehide and red knits make a striking jacket.
