D-1 shearling jackets were made for USAAC mechanics, and came with a matching trouser set. The jackets date as early as 1937, and were made well through WWII. The earlier jackets don't have pockets, as the two examples below show, while most later jackets do have pockets, with a zippered closure. The jackets were also used by aircrews who found shearling jackets in short supply. These jackets are usually a little larger than their ticketed size, and have oversized sleeves, which were often folded at the end.
