About This Jacket:
This is an early D-1 with a 1940 contract date, and the maker, San Antonio Air Depot, must have
been one of the few AAC centers that actually produced clothing. SAAD had their contract information impressed into the leather under
the back of the collar. This states:
TYPE D-1
T.P. NO. 37K5510
MFG. SAAD
MEDIUM
The D-1 designs often have long sleeves and very wide shoulders, so ground crews often folded the sleeve ends. This particular jacket
came from a fellow who's father received it while serving in Italy in WWII, near Foggia. SAAD also made sheepskin trousers for the
Army Air
Corps.
