About This Jacket:
This L.W. Foster Sportswear jacket may have been the last contract they had for a 55J14. This
design stayed the same from the WWII AN-J-3A they made through the 55J14 and MIL-J-7823 G-1, finally changing with the QM(CTM)
contract to a jacket with a longer torso and rounded pocket flaps, as well as other changes. Foster's jackets are known for having an
outer stitch line on the left pocket for the pen pocket, which Gordon & Ferguson also did, as well as a small collar, straight throat latch,
well-squared pocket flap corners, large shoulders, a short body, and long arms. They were also one of the first companies to make the
back much wider than common M-422a designs. There were two versions of the USN stencil, and this is the later version.
