About This Jacket:
L.W. Foster Sportswear began to make flight jackets for the Navy during WWII, starting with
an AN-J-3A contract. The design of their Navy jacket stayed the same until the late 1950's QM(CTM) contract G-1 which had rounded
pocket flaps. This G-1 is one of Foster's largest 55J14 G-1 contracts. The jacket dates to about 1947-1951. The size tag would have
been a small white tag under the label, but these easily came off. The jacket has seen some alterations, like new cuffs being added
at some point, and the zipper has been replaced. The leather is quite nice, not too thick or weak. Note the USN stencil, which is a bit
later style than the larger typeface U.S.N. used on earlier Foster jackets.
