The MA-1 series of jackets (begun some time around 1954) were made as a replacement for the B-15D (MOD). It's design is essentially the same as the B-15D except that it was never made with a fur collar. The earlier jackets have a square top to the wind flap, which must have bothered a number of airmen, as later versions were made with a rounded top. The MIL-J-8279 - 8279A versions have an oxygen hose tab and vox tabs on the chest, while the MIL-J-8279B series is the first to have these details removed. Also, later versions have some interesting stitching on the wind flap, where earlier versions were only made with a diamond stitch. The MIL-J-8279C version is the first to have an orange lining and white label.
