As the Air Force became it's own branch of the military, the leadership wanted to distinguish their people from the Army, so the color blue was chosen for uniforms. The time period of blue clothing is around 1949-1953, and the L-2A designation came from this period, as did the B-15C and N-2A/N-3A. This jacket was dark blue in color, but of the same materials and design as the L-2. One difference along with the color is that the oxygen hose tabs are now being made with webbing material, rather than leather. The blue color for Air Force uniforms was phased out later due to the lack of camouflage in lighter colored terrain.
