About This Jacket:
This is an example of two rare contracts that were awarded to two companies, having the spec
number MIL-J-7823A. These jackets were made in relatively low numbers around 1959-1961, and Irvin B. Foster & Sons Sportswear was
one, with Ralph Edwards being the other. This was the first contract for Irvin B. Foster, who was the brother of Lou Foster (L.W.). They had
a falling out with each other and in the split, Irvin made his own company. These jackets are well made and this one is in almost unused condition. The leather is a very
solid dark brown, having no wear signs. The lining is somewhat thick and has a more coarse weave texture than previous G-1 jackets. The collar
is a very dark and thick mouton, and the collar seems a little larger than previous L.W. Foster versions, a related company. This contract
is also the first spec to have a brass paperclip Conmar zipper, though the only one with which it's painted black.
