Occasionally we have the chance to handle or buy a vintage jacket that just screams to be copied. We were able to acquire another
Willis & Geiger Navy jacket, in size 38, and we did a quick pattern over the weekend and a test sample. This jacket is a little more
to our liking in how the M-422 series was patterned. The lower torso is a little bigger on this test model, and we've since made a couple
adjustments to the lower torso to make it snugger, but if you're a good fit with our usual test samples, this will be just fine, if not
a tiny bit larger in the lower torso.
Note the short sleeves, too. Originals had some variation, but this reflects a typical shorter sleeve from this contract. The torso has
length typical of M-422 jackets, not too long, but certainly not short. The shoulders are comfortable and wide. If one looks at photos
of AVG Flying Tigers in China, they received Willis & Geiger M-422s from the CAMCO purchase order. They looks so much like this jacket.
We have several customers in line to receive this exact pattern, and it appears to be quite pleasing.
The hides are soft, but have good weight. Each hide is quite large, making the cutting of panels and details more efficient (small goatskin hides
are very difficult to use, as too much of the hide is wasted with unusable small bits). The finish is strong, but will show wear with lots of use on
the high points. The smell is wonderful, typical of well-tanned leather.
We've handled a good number of Willis & Geiger originals, from the M-422 series to M-422A, AN-6552s, and AN-J-3As.
The jacket would ideally fit someone in the range of 5'11" to 6'1", with a chest of 43" to 45", and a weight of about 180-205 pounds.
