This contract was awarded on August 8th, 1941, and it was for 7,000 jackets in total. Werber has a prolific number of contracts, of many forms of jackets, and all the other A-2 contracts were earlier, starting in 1933. This jacket came to us with no lining, no cuffs, a replaced zipper, and the original waistband. We have replaced the lining, label, knits, and zipper. The zipper is a reproduction Talon with vintage M-42 Talon slider. The jacket is now wearable and should have many years of life left with moderate use. The leather is solid, with no areas of weakness, though the skins chosen for this jacket do have natural animal scars (from before tanning). A few areas were re-stitched on the leather shell, but it should be just fine now. The leather finish is pure aniline, and it shows scrapes and brushes against it, but these can be buffed out. It has that old leather look that so many people tell us they want. The ideal size person for the jacket would have a 40" chest, and be around 5'7" to 5'10" tall. This jacket isn't perfect, and it's virtually impossible to re-build a jacket using original stitch holes (like all originals, this one wasn't aligned perfectly in several areas, so when we did align them, it wasn't easy to re-stitch over the old holes). But, it has the look of a beautiful old A-2, and the contract is quite a scarce one. Finding original Werbers in wearable condition is quite difficult. It looks great worn, too. Very cool pattern, and we have used this jacket to replace our old Werber patterns.
