We've just bought a vintage Singer double-needle sewing machine (112WV110) with a 1/4" spread between the needles. These machines are excellent for sewing French seams in both cloth and leather, along with double-needle sewing such as the top stitching of seams on Tanker jackets. This needle-feed machine is in superb condition for a unit made during WWII, and we're very happy to have it. We've made a Californian Ventura with French seams to test how it does with leather.

This jacket is made with Italian russet horsehide, and the lining is a beautiful, dense cotton plaid fabric we sourced from Japan. The sleeves are lined with burgundy rayon. The pockets are lined with Japan-sourced jungle cloth. The zipper is a No.7 riveted nickel model with Waldes as the mark, and it's a copy of a Talon. Note the second label below the Californian label, which is a vintage Henry C. Lytton & Co. original label from our collection.

The French seam sewing went quite well, so we're happy with the condition of the machine. We altered a few design details of this Ventura to accommodate this kind of sewing, using buttoned belts to cinch the jacket tigther in the waist and sleeve ends.

The jacket would ideally fit someone in the range of 5'11" to 6'2", with a chest of 41.5" to 43", and a weight of about 185-205 pounds. The jacket is shown with a wearer who is 6 feet tall with a 41.5" chest, and it has a comfortable, slightly oversized fit.
