This is a fun original A-2, issued during WWII to a man named Leroy Robert "Dick" Weaver. The jacket is in solid but well used condition, and
we have some of his service history printed in a booklet.
The leather on this jacket is wonderful. Never perfect (none are), but wonderful, with no bad odors or discoloration. The color is a rich, dark
shade of russet. Is it horsehide or cowhide? We aren't sure, though we believe the Monarch we used for our pattern ten years ago had a brand
from the animal the hides came from, like a cow. The lining has typical holes by the neck, and one longer crack which we sewed closed by the waistband.
the Talon works, but the pin has separated from the tape, a common zipper problem.
The waistband had a number of holes, which we've darned up. One aspect of Monarch A-2s is that the waistbands were installed with no tension, but they
just hung down. Not all, but certainly most. This jacket is one of those. The cuffs were already replacements, but we've installed cuffs of a very close color.
The thread is solid for a jacket of this age, a mixture of browns and greens. All the snaps work just fine.
This is a rare A-2 in that the service member is both known, along with a bit of his unit history. So often A-2s just don't have much history
while it's known they were used during the war. Monarchs are a bit uncommon compared with the bigger contractors as well.
Oh, and yes, we most certainly did get a pattern from this jacket. We think it's great! More on that later.
The jacket would ideally fit someone in the range of 5'8" to 5'10", with a chest of 37" to 39", and a weight of about 140-155 pounds.
