We have a return jacket that was a little too small for the intended customer. The jacket is made with a wonderful selection of Horween horsehide, which is ChromExcel, rather heavy (about 3.5-4 oz.), and of a light russet color. The jacket is based on a late 1940s cross-zip example, and has the back commonly seen on Hercules jackets. Yes, a replacement jacket is being made now.

The lining is an 8 oz. cotton twill in a mustard shade, and will hold up well with use. Note the vintage gabardine label, of which we have about ten available. The main label is an exact copy of what California Sportwear had used in the late 1940s.

The zipper is a heavy No.10 vintage Crown, in unused condition, and is wonderful. The chest zipper is also a vintage Crown (with the name molded on the side of the slider). The buttons are vintage from the 1930s or 1940s, which we had gotten years ago in a very small batch.

The Horween horsehide will darken a little over time with wear, and the grain will pop even more than what these photos show. The finish is aniline with an oil pull-up on the surface, so scratches and other marks will show, but they can be buffed out. We don't know of any other leather with the character that this has.

The jacket would ideally fit someone in the range of 5'11" to 6'2", with a chest of 42.5" to 44", and a weight of about 190-220 pounds. If you observe the jacket on John, you can see that it's larger than what he usually wears, and longer.
