This jacket is a beautiful original civilian half-belt horsehide jacket made by Gordon & Ferguson. They were a prolific operation and they made jackets for decades, in the sporting field and military as well.

The design of the jacket is common-sense, and looks great in the right size. The leather has wear to the surface, but is rock-solid, and with some conditioner, it would look near to new. The lining shows wear to a few places, but other than some holes from friction, it, too, is very solid.

The horsehide is finished in a wonderful russet shade, which shows edge wear in areas that get the most friction. We wish that such horsehide were easily available today—it really is amazing. Our method of photography makes the edge wear look more pronounced than it really is.

The zipper was made in 1941, and is a brass Talon with a straight puller. It works just fine, and one can see the date of "1" on the stopper, along with the letter A, which suggests January of 1941. The chest zipper is a very unique Talon that we've never seen before.

The rest of the jacket is in great condition. The buckles were replaced by us, as one was gone when we received it, but we've put on two matching buckles on the half-belt. The thread seems to be just fine, and the pockets are all in great condition. The jacket has no odors. A pin was used on the chest at one point, through the whole jacket in the chest. Note the sizing below. We measure accurately, and for this jacket, a person with a 38-39" chest would be most ideal.
