This jacket is a fascinating G-1, owned by Bill Kennedy. The jacket has only been used lightly, and the condition, for its age,
is really quite amazing. The patches tell a bit of his history, and show an extremely rare big patch of VP-MS-3, along with
VR-21 and Air Transport Squadron 1. The name tag was applied to the jacket via opening the upper zipper line, so the same green
rigger thread was used to attach the patch and then sew the jacket together again. The big patch may cover a previously sewn patch
on the other side, as the sewing goes through the lining, but the zipper was also opened on that side, too. The shoulder patches
have sewing done through the lining.
The jacket is comfortable, and looks great when worn. The leather is in fantastic shape, with no damage or areas of trouble. It looks
brand new. There's a subtle smell of the tanning method, which is quite pleasant. The lining is perfect, with no signs of wear. The knits
are also perfect, which is rare for older jackets, as even moths can affect a mint example. The mouton shows some matting
along the neck line, but otherwise is great. The zipper is as-new and runs well.
The rarity of a jacket of this vintage (1962), condition, and the patches are all quite a package for the Navy jacket collector.
In a funny coincidence, this Navy G-1 contract is the same one as the recent auction of President John F. Kennedy's G-1, which
sold for $570,000.00. Same size, too. We have not altered the jacket in any manner since getting it.
