Foster G-1 flight jacket. The Amendment 2 contract specs date to 18 May 1954, and we have those full specs, along with earlier and later specs. Foster's pattern is quite flattering, in the right size, and comfortable. The shoulders are big, and lower torso snug. The jacket is too small for John, in these photos, but a person of the right dimensions would look excellent wearing it. This jacket is in very healthy condition. The goatskin is dense, hefty, and has some wonderful grain. The lining, oddly, had two rips in the upper front panel, which can be see in a photo below. That looked more like a problem getting it on a hanger than wear. Both holes were carefully closed. The mouton is still in solid condition, and fluffy. The knits are great, too. The cuff has one tiny area with a hole on the edge, and the waistband had a hole in the back which was darned closed. The zipper works flawlessly, and the nylon thread is still as solid as when new. This contract was before Foster's massive 2134 QM-CTM contract, and was much smaller. The jacket would ideally fit someone in the range of 5'6" to 5'10", with a chest of 38" to 40", and a weight of about 150 to 170 pounds.
