We have a beautiful Bronco A-2 available in a larger size. This jacket was lightly used, and it was made as a Combat Clone, but to a subtle
degree. This jacket also has a vintage Crown zipper from 1941, the stronger, earlier models made with better tape than those made in 1943.
These earlier Crowns are extremely hard to find, and have chrome-plated teeth.
We made our Bronco pattern from an original 29191 we took apart (in rough condition), and our pattern matches extremely well with originals.
We've also handled a good number of original Broncos, and still have one in our collection. The Bronco pattern is comfortable and looks
sharp when worn. We've copied all of Bronco's unique details, from pockets having beveled corners, to the exact design of the pocket flap,
including their unique method of cutting the seam allowances.
This jacket is made with our custom russet shade of Italian horsehide, and it features knits sourced from Japan (the same company supplying
Real McCoys and Buzz Rickson). The cotton lining is also from Japan, and is a superb weight and shade. The neck area of the lining does have
slight darkening of the material from wear. The thread is a pale olive cotton, which is just like many Bronco originals.
We've been able to source thousands of vintage United-Carr Line 20 snaps, and this jacket is made with them. These were produced for the
Navy in 1943, and they're identical to what Bronco was given by the Army for their 29191 contract.
This jacket looks just like an original Bronco with a few days wear from 1942. What is our Combat Clone option? That is where we sew a jacket
with subtle imperfection, mimicking how original A-2s were sewn.
We always caution people to use Crown zippers as carefully as possible. They are wonderful to have on a reproduction jacket, and to
ensure they last as long as humanly possible, we encourage the very careful use of opening and closing these zippers. The teeth were cast
onto the tape, unlike the technique of Talon and others pinching the teeth onto the tape. The waves in the cotton tape of Crown zippers
comes from the expansion of the edge of the cotton and gimp threads under the teeth, from the heat of casting those teeth. Zippers with
pinched-on teeth do not expand in this manner.
The jacket would ideally fit someone in the range of 5'11" to 6'2", with a chest of 42" to 43.5", and a weight of about 190-210 pounds.
