This jacket is an original MIL-J-7823 G-1, from around 1956-1957. The jacket has great goatskin, but
the collar, cuffs, and zipper needed to be replaced. We did this and the jacket is ready for another
six decades of use. The size is a typical 42, if one is familiar with Naval leather jackets.
The lining has a very interesting dark turquoise shade, and every original from this small contract
that we've seen does as well. We've also seen one L.W. Foster Amendment #2 G-1 with the same lining.
The rest of the jacket is typical of those from this era, and the wind flap has USN punched in, and
no painted USN behind the collar. The cuffs are replaced, and the waistband is original, with a few
small holes, but nothing worth the need for a full replacement. The lining has fading down the center,
but is otherwise in great condition.
The Amendment process had 1, 2 and 3, and though many have speculated over what these amendments
stood for, the reasons are very technical. We have all the documentation from the Navy on the 7823
through 7823E series, and each of the three amendments are short notations of different specs for
parts or construction. We are including large scans from our files of the Amendment #3, which only
the Breier contract seems to have on the label.

The information is quite fascinating, but even more so is the full 7823 spec sheet, which covers all
aspects of construction of these Navy jackets.
The jacket is definitely used, but is clean, has no bad odors, and looks very classy with the pattern
and small collar profile. Please feel free to ask any questions before a sale, and tell us your height,
weight and chest measurement in inches. Not much is known about the original company, but we have seen
several vintage civilian jackets that they made. A quick Google search does show quite a number of civilian
jackets. They were based in Amsterdam, New York.
