This Type B-3 jacket is available for purchase. The pattern is the earlier version, which has fewer seams. Note the split V section used in the lower hip for the belt adjustment. The jacket is lightly used, and made with superb sheepskin of the correct weight and fur type.

This jacket reproduces a common theme from the early war era, in which multiple colors of hides were combined in a jacket. The use of reddish tone skins with acrylic dark brown can be seen in many jackets made around 1941. Later in the war, the darker acrylic was most prominently used as a finish.

Some companies that produced B-3 jackets also produced A-2s, and the type of leather used on the A-2s would be used on the trim of the B-3s. We see typical russet on many jackets of this period, and our reproduction has LHJ102 horsehide for the seam tape, sleeve backing, and pocket. The belts are a thicker russet cowhide latigo leather.

The belt buckles are exact copies of originals, made with cast iron. The belt leather is cut using a clicker die. The zipper is a vintage WWII M-42 Talon, and the snaps are vintage United Carr Dot #24 ring snaps from the 1940s. We used dull reddish 100% cotton thread. An exact reproduction of WWII early war chains has been used for the hanger device.

The jacket has a very comfortable fit for the dimensions of the person in the photos. The body pattern is a little longer than some other B-3s we have handled. Note the dimensions of both the jacket and the model. Note how the jacket has a wider back than the front, under the arms. This is part of why the jacket is very comfortable, as it works well with the human shape and motion of arms.
